Le Picard part of the Le Normand-class fast frigates (E52 type), preceded by Le Corse-class and succeeded by Commandant Rivière-class. Class specifications displacement 1.295 (standard)-1.795 (full load) tons and as dimensions 99,3 (over all) x 10,3 x 4,1 metres or 326 x 34 x 13 feet. Two screws, horsepower 20.000 shp, 28 knots speed and a range of 4.500 nautical miles with a speed of 15 knots. Crew numbered 175 (peace)-200 (war) persons. Armament consisted of 3x2-5,7cm cal 60 modèle 1951 anti aircraft guns, 2x1-2cm guns, 4x3-55mc/22” torpedo tubes, 1x6-47,5cm ASW rocket launchers, 2 depth charge launchers and 1 depth charge rack. Laid down by A.C. de la Loire in November 1953, launched on 31 May 1954, commissioned on 20 September 1956 and stricken in 1979.
Clemenceau part of the Clemenceau-class, consisted of the Clemenceau and Foch, preceded by Joffre-class and succeeded by Charles de Gaule. Laid down at the Arsenal de Brest in November 1955, launched on 21 December 1957, commissioned on 22 November 1961, decommissioned on 1 October 1997 and broken up between 2009-2010. Homeport Brest, France. Displacement 22.000 (standard)-32.780 (loaded) tons and as dimensions 265 x 51,2 x 8,6 metres or 879 x 168 x 28 feet. The machinery consisted of 4 steam turbines and 6 Indret boilers supplying 126.000 shp allowing a speed of 32 knots. Her crew numbered 984 (as helicopter carrier)-1.338 (as aircraft carrier) men. Armament consisted of 8-10cm guns, in the 1990s reduced to 4, the other replaced by 2 SACP Crotale EDIR systems with 52 missiles added. Maximum 40 aircraft. Landing area 165,5 x 29,5 metres or 543 x 97 feet, length light deck 265 metres/869 feet.
