Design for the Pennsylvania (BB-38) used for building the Pennsylvania and the Arizona (BB-39) and used as baseline for the USS New Mexico (BB-40). (1) Dimensions 600 (waterline) x 97.0½ (waterline) x 28’10” feet and normal displacement 31.400 tons.Speed 21 knots. Range 8.000 nautical miles with a speed of 10 knots. Turbine machinery. Horsepower 17.000 ehp at 21 knots. Number of boiler rooms 3. Armament 4x3-35,6cm/14”50 cal breech loading guns, 22-12,7cm/5” 51 cal quick firing guns and 4-53,3cm/21 submerged torpedo tubes. None torpedo nets. Armour belt main side: (extreme width) 17’4 5/8”-8’10”(depth below waterline)-13½’, 13½”and 8” (thickness). Barbettes (heavy part)- (light part) 13½-4½”. Gun turrets (port)- (sides)- (top)- ( rear) 18”-10/9”-5”-9”. Conning tower thickness (proper)- (top) 16”-8”. Fire control tower thickness 16”. Conning tower tube thickness (heavy part)- (light part) 16”-6”. Uptake protection thickness 13”. Protective deck total thickness 120. Splinter deck total thickness 80. Normal displacement consists of Hull complete and hull fittings 14.781 tons; Protection 8.422 tons; Steam engineering 2.399 tons; Reserve feed and 2/3 supply 209 tons; Battery 1.658 tons; Ammunition and 2/3 ordnance stores 1.310 tons; Equipment and 2/3 equipment stores 450 tons; Outfit and 2/3 stores 623 tons and Oil fuel, 2.3 supply 1.548 tons.
