British, Dutch, Japanese and Russian whaling fleets fitted out for coming season according to the Australian newspaper The Courier-Mail dated Tuesday 11 October 1949

An item dated London, England 10 October reporting that two Japanese whaling fleets and one Russian bound for the Antarctic would depart on short notice with the season starting on 22 December. Further more were fleets sent by Norway (10), United Kingdom (4) and the Netherlands (1).
