An item dated Monday, Australia 20th reported the expected arrival of a Russian whaling fleet early in the morning of 21 April. The fleet numbered 34 ships with 2 factory ships including one of world largest whaling factory ship the 32.024 gross tons measuring Sovet-Skaya Ukraina and 32 catchers. The intention was to load supplies and water and shore leave for the 1.891 numbering crew members.

The Sovetskaya Ukraina whaling factory ships project 392 with as dimensions 200 (between perpendiculars)-217,50 (over all) x 27,80 (moulded)-27,94 (extreme) x 10,70 (loaded draught) x 19 (depth to upper deck) metres, 44.900 tons displacement, 25.720 tons deadweight, 32.020 tons gross and 17.920 net tons tonnage. Built between 1959-1961 with yard number 500 by SSZ im. Nosenko, Nikolaev, USSR {Ukraine]. Broken up in Turkey in 1995. IMO 5336064 and call sign UHWJ. Able to handle 86 tons/hour frozen whale meat, 360 tons raw material/24 hours whale meat meal, 3.400 tons raw material whale oil/24 hours and 144 tons grax meal/24 hours.
