British screw steam cargo ship (ex-Hai Yan 1934-1938) Yu Sang 1938-1942

 

Launched on 27 July 1934, delivered with yard number 1456 by Neptune yard, Low Walker, Swan, Hunter&Wigham Richardson, Wallsend, Newcastle. England in September 1934 to the China Merchant Steam Navigation Co., Shanghai, China. Call sign VRBV. Renamed Yu Sang in 1938 of the Indo-China Steam Nav. Co. Ltd., homeport Hong Kong, United Kingdom-flagged. Requisitioned by the US Army at Marivales, Philippines in March 1942 and sunk while used as an ammunition transport by Japanese aircraft on 9 April 1942. Gross tonnage 3.363 tons, net tonnage 1.985 tons and as dimensions 343.0 x 47.2 x 23.2 feet.
