A deed dated 31 March 1656 (notary Lambert Adriaensz Schorel nr. 488) mentioned that Claes Jansz Thoen or ‘t Hoen hired on behalf of his company from Arijaen Jansz van Hoorn the Liefde of about 120 last for ƒ 3.000 to be used as whaler.
