Japanese warships probably fitted out for actions in the East Pacific area according to the U.S. Joint Intelligence Committee daily summary dated 2 May 1942

An item reported that several strong Japanese naval units were undergoing overhaul in Japanese shipyards to be completed around mid May. It was considered that these ships could be used for a new attack possible in the East Pacific area.
