Japanese bombers attacking Dutch naval base at Surabaya, Dutch East Indies according to the Dutch newspapers De Sumatra Post dated 5 February 1942

An item dated Batavia Dutch East Indies 4th reported that on the 3rd between 70-80 Japanese bombers attacked the Dutch East Indies especially Surabaya, Malang and Madioen. Dutch losses were severe but lacking details was more specified information not possible. Dutch warships in the archipelago were also attacked although without success. The Royal Netherlands Navy reported that during the attack on Surabaya a part of her float planes was damaged by Japanese machine gun shooting. Lucky enough were the most of the damaged planes older types mainly used for training. A work vessel was lightly damaged. On the naval base included the airbase were 3 military killed and 2 wounded. There were very small losses under the civilian personnel.
