Russian warship Kitoboi not allowed to leave Kiel, Germany for the Black Sea according to the Secret Admiralty Weekly Intelligence Summary No. 1 dated 10 July 1920


An item referred to press items reporting the arrival of a Russian warship at Kiel, Germany. She showed the former Russian flag. Proceeding was forbade while it was ascertained that she was bound for the Black Sea to join the forces of general Wrangel. (1) In a comment was she identified as the Kitoboi which departed from Copenhagen, Denmark on 7 July. It was still unknown of the Russians accepted the terms of the Admiralty for handing over the ship to Russian authorities.

1. Pyotr Nikolayevich Wrangel (27 August 1878 Novalexandrovsk, Russian Empire-25 April 1928 Brussels, Belgium, commander in chief of the Armed Forces of South Russia 4 April-21 November 1920. Wrangel's Fleet consisted of of what was left of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Imperial Navy. In 1924 became the Soviet government the owner of this fleet interned at Bizerte, Tunesia. All ships were sold to be broken up.

2. Auxiliary minesweeper of the Baltic Fleet, ex-Erris dating from 1915. Also known as Kitoboj.
