An item dated Gibraltar 5 March reported the departure early in the morning of a British destroyer towards the Spanish east coast. The naval authorities did not supplied any details. It was believed that she went to Almeria or Cartagena. In the last city was the local radio station temporarily seized by the Nationalists. From Burgos was however reported that there was a uprising and that the Republican navy left the harbour. A second item reported the same evening returning of the British destroyer HMS Boadicea (1) from patrolling in the Strait of Gibraltar and now relieved by the HMS Gipsy. (2) So she had not been to Almeria or Cartagena as was suggested. In the same evening arrived 3 Italian destroyers.
