Results of the American whaling fleet in 1842 according to the newspaper The Polynesian dated 18 July 1846

An item reported the arrival in 1842 in the USA of

55 sperm whalers with an average absence of 41 months 8 days and an average catch of 1,972 barrels sperm oil and 135 barrels whale oil.

74 two season right whalers with an average absence of 24,5 months and an average catch of  422 barrels sperm oil and 1,722 barrels whale oil.

13 one season right whalers with an average absence of 10,5 months and an average catch of 122 barrels sperm oil and 1,602 barrels whale oil.

65 Atlantic sperm whalers with an average absence of 13 months 28 days and an average catch of 280 barrels sperm oil and 12 barrels whale oil.
