Survivors of the French destroyer Mousquet arrived at Sabang, Dutch East Indies according to the Dutch newspaper Bataviaasch nieuwsblad dated 2 November 1914

An item dated Kotaradja, Dutch East Indies 31 October reported the arrival at Sabang, Dutch East Indies of the British steamship Newburn met survivors of the crew of the French destroyer Mousquet (1) sunk by the German cruiser SMS Emden. (2) On board of the Newburn were 1 officer, 2 engineers, 7 quartermasters and 18 sailors all French 1 quartermaster and 5 sailors all Anamites [Vietnamnese]. One sailor died before the arrival and de officer died the same morning in the hospital. Furthermore arrived 13 wounded of which 3 heavily wounded.

1. Of the Arquebuse-class destroyers, preceded by Pertuisane-class, succeeded by Claymore-class, building ordered in 1900, laid down by Ateliers et Chantiers de l;a Loire, Nantes, France in November 1900, launched on 7 August 1902 and sunk during the German raid on Penang, British Malaya on 28 October 1914.

2. Of the Dresden-class, preceded by Königsberg-class, succeeded by Kolberg-class,laid down by the Kaiserliche Weft, Danzig, Germany on 1 November 1906, launched on 26 May 1908, commissioned on 10 July 1909 and disabled in a fight with the Australian cruiser HMAS Sydney grounded off the Cocos Islands on 9 November 1914.
