French forces at Diego-Suarez, Madagascar surrendered according to the U.S. Joint Intelligence Committee Daily summary dated 8 May 1942

An item reported that after two attacks by British forces in the morning and evening of 6 May on Antsirane near Diego Suarez, [harbour town, since 1975 called Antsiranana) Madagascar the French naval and military commanders surrendered.(1)

Note

1. Diego-Suarez was on 5 May 1942 the start point for the Allied forces capturing Madagascar preventing Japan taking over the island to be used for attacking allied shipping. This was Operation Ironclad.
