Intercepted by the American light cruiser USS Omaha (1) on 4 January 1944 around 455 miles north east of Brazil and with gunfire and scuttled charges sunk. At that moment the Rio Grande acted as a blockade runner. Call sign DJZN. Gross tonnage 6.062 ton, under deck 5.142 ton, net tonnage 3.864 ton, deadweight 9.400 ton and as dimensions 446.5 x 61.3 x 23.8 feet. One 909 nhp diesel engine.
