An item reported the arrival at Devonport, England on 24 February by the Portuguese cruiser Pedro Nunez (1) with on board the crews for the six sloops purchased by the Portuguese government.(2)

1. Launched by Scott&Co., Greenock, Scotland at the shipyard Cartsdyke East with yard number 270 on 23 November 1889 as the passenger screw steam ship for Mala Rea; Portugueza as Malange, 1913 of the Empreza Nacional de Navegcao a Vapor, Lisbon, Portugal, required in 1916 and fitted out as a merchant cruiser, stricken in 1923, new owner Transportes Maritimos do Estado, Lisbon and broken up in Italy in January 1924. Gross register tonnage 3.544 tons, net register tonnage 2.410 tons and as dimensions 363.5 x 42.2 x 33.3 (depth) x 25.3 (draught) metres. Armament 2-4.7” /11.9cm guns, 2-3”/7.62cm guns and 2-4.7cm guns.
2. Including the Arabis-class sloop Gladiolus of 1915 which became the Republica and the Acacia-class sloop Jonquil of 1915 which became the Carvalho Arújo.
