Former German warships underway to Rosyth, Scotland according to the Secret Admiralty Weekly Intelligence Summary Nr. 63 for the week ending 28 February 1920


The Emden. Internment at Scapa Flow 24 November 1918 - 20 June 1919

An item reported in the last week of the former German light cruiser SMS Emden (1) and the destroyers V 73 and V 80 towed from Scapa Flow, Orkney Islands to Rosyth, Scotland with the light cruiser Frankfurt (2) still underway. A drifter patrol on these vessels was taken care of.

Notes

1. Of the Königsberg-class, preceded by Wiesbaden-class, succeeded by Brummer-class, laid down by AG Weser, Bremen, Germany in 1915, launched on 1 February 1916, commissioned on 16 December 1916, run aground in Scapa Flow where she was interned on 21 June 1919, ceded to France but too damaged for active service on 11 March 1920, used as target after 1922 and broken up in 1926.

2. Of the Wiesbaden-class, succeeded by Königsberg-class, laid down by Kaiserliche Werft, Kiel, Germany in 1913, launched on 20 March 1915, commissioned on 20 August 1915, interned at Scapa Flow failed to scuttled her, ceded to the USA on 11 March 1920, commissioned on 4 June 1920 and sunk while used as a bomb target for aircraft on 18 July 1921.
