An item referred to a statement of the French governor of French India (1) Baron (2) reporting that the French cruiser Duguay Trouin (3) would depart as soon as possible to Mahé to support the local government and restore French authority.
Notes
1. French India became independent on 15 August 1947 followed on 1 November 1954 by handing over Pondichéry, Yanam, Mahe and Karikao to India and became the Union Territory of Puducherry. Not earlier as in 1962 was this transfer ratified by the French parliament.
2. Charles François Marie Baron was governor later high commissioned between March 1946-May 1949.
3. Of the Duguay-Trouin-class, consisting of the Duguay-Trouin, Lamotte-Piquet and Primauget, preceded by the planned but not realized La Motte-Piquet-class and succeeded by the Jeanne d’Arc. Laid down by Arsenal de Brest, France on 4 August 1922, launched on 14 August 1923, commissioned on 2 November 1928, decommissioned on 19 March 1952
