Reorganization of French Mediterranean fleet according to the Secret Admiralty Weekly Intelligence Summary Nr. 31 for the week ending 6 August 1921

An item reported that the French cruiser Ernest Renan (1) flagship of admiral de Bon (2) departed from Constantinople, Turkey on 19 July. The French Eastern Mediterramean not longer existed and was replaced by two independent divisions, one stationed at Constantinople commanded by rear admiral Dumesnil (3) and the second one at Syria (the headquarters were at Beirut, Lebanon) commanded by rear admiral Grandclement.(4)

Notes

1. Armoured cruiser, laid down by Chantiers de Penhoët, Saint Nazaire, France on 21 October 1903, launched on 9 April 1906, completed in 1901, decommissioned and stricken in 1931 and the same year sunk by aircraft an naval artillery when used as a target.

2. Ferdinand Jean Jacques de Bon (3 July 1861 Saint-Servan, France-6 July 1923, Paris, France), was chief of staff.

3. Charles-Henri Dumesnil (4 December 1868 Chanu, France-29 December 1946 Paris, France), ending his career in the rank of vice admiral, in service between 1888-1926.

4. Gaston Grandclément ( 8 October 1866 Brest, France-3 November 1942 Paris, France), ending his career in the rank of vice admiral?
