An item reported that the crews of three patrolling Italian warships blockading Fiume [nowadays Rijeka, Croatia] mutinied locking up their officers in the cabins placing the ships under orders of D’Annunzio. (1) The blockade continued with the Italian naval authorities stating to take the severest measures against discipline breaches.

Gabriele d’Annunzio, Prince of Montenevoso (12 March 1863 Pescara, Italy-1 March 1938 Gardone, Italy), ultra-nationalist, general , journalist and poet, commandante of the Carnaro 12 September 1919-30 December 1920. When Fiume was to hand over despite the major part of the inhabitants were Italian he seized the town which became the independent state known as Italian Regency of Carnaro but was forced to surrender after shelling of the town by the Italian navy.
