American whaler Magnolia visited Mongonui according to the Australian newspaper The Sydney Morning Herald dated 13 February 1860

An item dated Mongonui 23 January reported the arrival of the American whaler Magnolia 396 tons, ship, master Pierce of New Bedford 17 monts out 100 barrels whale oil (200 sent home) on 4 January, departed 6 January but to return.
