Japanese passenger cargo ship (ex-Kiku Maru 1924-1933) Unkai Maru No. 8 1933-1945

Call sign JOCH. Built by Aizawa Zosen Tekko K.K., Osaka, Japan in 1924, in 1939 owner Nakamura Kisen K.K., Kobe, Japan and sunk off Shakotan Mizaki by American submarine USS Spadefish (SS-411) on 10 June 1945. Reciprocating steam propulsion. 1 screw, coal bunker capacity 245 tons, speed 8 (cruising)-10 (maximum) knots and range 3,900 nautical miles/8 knots. Gross tonnage 1,293 tons, under deck 1,053 tons, net tonnage 924 tons, deadweight 1,850 tons and as dimensions 218.0 x 32.0 x 19.0 x 7 (light)-16 (loaded) feet.
