Value of aging Liberty ships increasing again according to the Dutch newspaper Trouw dated 24 June 1964

Liberty EC 2 cargo ship design

An item reported that earlier that year the trade in second hand Liberty ships almost disappeared until now. Traditional buyers mostly from Greece, Hong Kong and so on paid in the past months no more as 50,000 US dollars against the 100,000 and more US dollars at the end of 1963. The reason for the high prices in 1963 was caused by increasing freight prices  and high expectations when Russia was buying grain and the need for cargo capacity increased.  The expectations were not fulfilled and the price for a Liberty ship decreased with 50%. However just recently sold a British firm a Liberty for more as 83,000 pound sterling and one which undergone a survey around 6 months earlier was sold for 85,000 pound sterling. For  a Liberty which undergone recently a special survey was 95,000 pound sterling asked.
