French hospital ship Vinh-Long launched according to the magazine Mitteilungen aus dem Gebiete des Seewesens dated 1881 no. 1

An item reported the recent launching by Chaigneau et Bichon (Bichon Frères), Lormont/Gueyries, France of the French hospital ship Vinh-Long. Main dimensions 115 x 15,40 (deck) x 12 (hold) metres and a displacement of 5.690 tons. Double bottomed and steel built. With compound steam machinery and a total horsepower of 2.640 ihp and a speed of 14 knots. Pumps, anchor equipment an so on were handled with steam engine. Accommodation for 800 sick and/or wounded excluded crew and passengers. A steam device was responsible for an air condition in cabins and holds. After her launching was at the same shipyard the keel laid down of the troop and horse transport Gironde. (1)

1. Laid down on 7 May 1878, launched on 4 January 1881, completed in 1883, commissioned on 6 February 1881 and lost by fire on 16 November 1922 in the Sea of Marmora, Turkey.
