American naval attaché at Paris, France reported in October 1942 that the Chief of the French Naval Intelligence assured him formally that no French submarines operated with Germany. The French submarines under construction or repair in the occupied territory at the time of the armistice were all effectually demolished and the Germans made no attempts to take them in service.
