Japanese forces attacked Wake Island according to the U.S. Joint Intelligence Committee. Daily summary dated 23 December 1941

An item referred to the C.O. Wake reporting a Japanese attack at noon on 22 December. Carrier based bombers escorted by modern fighters were involved in the attack. American fighters shot several down. At 05.00 o’clock Wake time 23 December landed the Japanese. Several ships and transports moved in, with two destroyers run aground 07.00 o’clock Wake time.
