An item referred to COM 12 reporting that the ss Larry Doheny was unsuccessfully attacked by an enemy submarine off Estero Bay (80 miles south of Monterey). The J.I.C. commented possible the same submarine as the one which attacked the Montebello.

1. The Montebello was attacked by the Japanese submarine I-21. Ordered on 2 May 1920, laid down with yard number 44 by Sun Shipbuilding&Drydock Co., Chester on 17 January 1921, launched as Norwegian owned and flagged Foldenjord, renamed Larry Doheny in 1927 and torpedoed and sunk by the Japanese submarine I-25 8 miles off Gold Beach, Oregon, USA on 5 October 1942.
