Australian screw steam ship Alert 1877-1893

Built at Port Glasgow, Scotland in 1877. Dimensions 169 x 19.6 x 9.8 (hold) feet and 243 tons burthen. Owners Messrs. Huddart, Parker&Co. Although she principally had as destination Geelong reported newspapers in 1893 that recently she was transferred to the Gippsland Lake traffic between Melbourne and the Lakes entrance and up to Bairnsdale. She was lost off Jubilee Point, Back Beach, Sorrento, Victoria, Australia on 28 December 1893. One survivor and 16 dead. Master was A. Mathieson.d.
