Part of Myōkō-class preceded by Aoba-class succeeded by Takao-class. Ordered in 1924. Approved under the 1922–1929 Fleet Modernization Program. Laid down by Mitsubishi Nagasaki Shipyard on 16 March 1925, launched on 16 March 1925, commissioned on 25 April 1929, sunk by the British 26th Destroyer Flotilla in the Strait of Malacca on 16 May 1945 and stricken on 20 June 1945.
