Enemy submarine activities in the western Atlantic according to the U.S. Joint Intelligence Committee. Daily summary dated 17 January 1942

An item reported that despite the numerous reports of enemy submarine activities in the western Atlantic during the past 24 hours just 3 attacks were reported: 1 in the vicinity of Cape Sable, 1 at St. John’s, Newfoundland and 1 north of Dominica. Contacts with submarines were reported along the whole coastline from St. John’s, Newfoundland to Dominican Republic and 300 miles northeast of Martinique.
