Japan-flagged, homeport Ominato, MMSI 431999684 and call sign Part of Takanami-class destroyers preceded by Murasame-class succeeded by Akizuki-class. Building ordered under the Medium-term defense buildup plan of 1996 in 2002, laid down by IHI Marine United Shipyards, Yokohama, Japan on 24 September 2003, launched on 26 August 2004 and commissioned on 16 February 2006.
