An item reported that a Dutch submarine sighted the sinking of a Japanese destroyer off Sarawak by gunfire.(1)

1.In the night of 23-24 December was the Japanese destroyer Sagiri torpedoed by the Dutch submarine Hr.Ms. KXVI off Kuching, Sarawak with as result that her own torpedoes were set on fire and exploded and she sunk. Sagiri ordered under 1923 Fiscal Year, laid down as Destroyer No. 50 by Uraga Dock Company on 28 March 1929, launched on 3 December 1929, commissioned on 31 January 1931, sunk by Hr.Ms. KXVI on 24 December 1941 and stricken on 15 January 1942. Part of Fubuki-class preceded by Mutsuki-class succeeded by Hatsuharu-class. KXVI ordered on 30 May 1929, laid down by Rotterdamsche Droogdok Maatschappij, Netherlands with yard number RDM-169 on 31 May 1930, launched on 8 April 1933, commissioned on 31 January 1934 and sunk on 25 December 1941. Part of XIV-class.
