Part of Myoko-class preceded by Aoba-class succeeded by Takao-class. Ordered under the 1922 Fleet Modernization Programme in 1924, laid down by Kawasaki hipyards, Kobe, Japan on 11 April 1925, launched on 222 April 1928, commissioned on 20 August and sunk by the British HMS submarine Trenchant in the Bangka Strait on 8 June 1945.
