An item reported that between 9 p.m. 7 December-1 a.m. 8 December 1939 German low-flying planes attacked 12 times the area between Lowestoft and the Thames Estuary. One plane dropped mines in the entrance of the Harwich harbor. Sweeping for magnetic mines was without result and the harbour was reopened on 10 December 1939. An item reported that the British G-class destroyer HMS Griffin saw two parachutes dropped in the Thames Estuary on 10 December.
