Ordered under 1905-1906 construction program, contract dated 6 April 1906, laid down as Ersatz SMS Pfeil by Kaiserliche Werft, Danzig, Germany on 1 November 1906, launched on 26 May 1908, commissioned on 10 July 1909, disabled by the Australian cruiser HMAS Sydney and grounded off the Cocos Islands on 9 November 1914.
