Drawn for the General Board in a design process what ended with the Montana-class (BB67-71). With a displacement of 52,500 (standard)-64,500 (trial) tons and as dimensions 860 (waterline) x 114 (waterline) x 36 feet. Armament 4x3-40.64cm/16” cal 50 guns and 10x2-12.7cm/5” cal 38 guns. With 130,00 hp horsepower a speed of 29 knots. BB-65 was the USS Ilinois part of the Iowa-class preceded by the South Dakota-class succeeded by the Montana-class, ordered on 9 September 1940, laid down by the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard on 6 December 1942, stricken on 11 or 12 August 1945 (22% complete) and broken up still on the slipway in September 1958.
