Sold on an auction Monday 16 October 1769 in the Nieuwezyds Heeren Logement at Amsterdam the whaler Lust van ‘t Vaderland. This extra ordinary seaworthy sailing fluyt ship had as master Jan Holders Groet and was newly fitted out in 1759. Her dimensions were 113 x 29’10”x 13’2, the verdeck 6’10” and the S. 9’4” (?) in Amsterdam foot. Costs ƒ 14.000, with and adjudication of ƒ 800. Albertus Kramp on behalf of his master. Is this the Jan Jeldertsz Groot, a commandeur in the Greenland whale-fishery? He sailed in 1769 in service of the widow Philippus en Franciscus Xaverius van den Yver at Amsterdam with as result 13 whales, 290 barrels whale-blubber and 460 quardelen train-oil.
