Drawing by Alexander van Maanen

This frigate was laid down at Wilton Fijenoord 9 April 1964, launched 12 April 1965, completed 16 September 1965 and stricken in 1982. Displacement 1.724 tons standard and 2.000 tons full load and as dimensions 341'3" (between perpendiculars)-360'3" (over all) x 37 x 11'6". Her engines provided 16.000 bhp allowing a speed of 26 knots and a range of 3.500 nautical miles by a speed of 15 knots. Her crew numbered 216 men. Originally armed with 2-4" guns, 4-40mm guns and one Squid ASW mortar. At the aft end was a lading facility for a helicopter. Refitted at Birkenhead, United Kingdom in 1973 and at Schiedam, Netherlands in 1977. Was renamed Obuma in 1981.

Oscar Myszor of Historical Handbook of World Navies http://www.hicon.pl/~pothkan/hhwn/index.html provided some additional information. She was attacked in 1968 by a Biafran B-26 Invader commanded by the Polish mercenary Jan Zumbach (known also as John Brown) but without any success. Although hulked in the '80s she was apparently still existing in 2005!

In this civil war were more Europeans active at the Biafran side. The Republic of Biafra is to be located in the South Eastern part of Nigeria and existed in the period 30 May 1967-15 January 1970.
