British navy not strong enough according to the Dutch newspaper Het Vaderland: staat- en letterkundig nieuwsblad evening edition dated 6 August 1935

The British First Lord of the Admiralty sir Bolton Eyres (1) stated in a meeting of the Conservatives at Blenham on the evening of 5 August that the strength of the Royal navy was not sufficient. The fleet was the most important protection for the supply of victuals and commodities for England and she should keep that part. The whole British empire, a forth of the world depended for her defence on the navy and if she was competitive a fourth part of the world was safe!
