The removal of the Swedish naval base at Stockholm according to the Dutch newspaper Het Vaderland evening edition dated 21 December 1937

Recently bought the city Stockholm from the Swedish government for 30.000.000 Swedish crones the island Skeppsholmen and Kastellholmen which were part of the naval base at Stockholm. The contract needed still to be approved by the cabinet, Rijksdag (parliament) and the town council. The intention was to reform the island into parks. The naval authorities were negotiating for obtaining the necessary space on the island Lidingoe at a distance of around 5 kilometres from Stockholm. The sell was done for two reasons to give the citizens the possibility to enjoy beautiful parks and for safety while the naval base was in the centre of Stockholm near many other government buildings and the royal palace causing a threat in case Sweden was involved in a war.
