An item dated Venice 18 September reported that at Murano 48 officers of the Italian navy gathered on a banquet and who toasted to the emperor Frans (1) with the words that during his glorious reign the flags of the Venetian were sighted all seas. The Venetians were calling for a navy. For the young lads of that generation were hardly sources of support available the love of fame was for the most of them heritage. The merchants would obtain huge profits if there was a navy established.
