British reefer Turakina torpedoed by Germans according to the Dutch newspaper De Zeeuw dated 26 August 1940

An item referred to a statement of the German supreme command that her naval forces sunk in Australian waters the British armed merchant ship Turakina of 8.706 tons. Her loss was important while she was especially built as a reefer for transporting butter. While Denmark and the Netherlands no longer exported butter depended England on New Zealand for the needed butter. Already in peace time was the import from New Zealand important.
