British steam tanker Vacuum Pioneer 1952-1970

IMO 53755254. Dimensions 245’x 40’16’. Original built for the Vacuum Oil co., later the Mobil Oil Company Ltd., London, England and managed by Stephenson Clarke Ltd., London, which firm was also supervising her building. Launched on 18 December 1952 by Mrs/ Blake Middleton spouse of a director of the Vacuum Oil Company at the Grangemouth Dockyard Co. Ltd. With yard number 505. Gross register tonnage 1.650 tons, deadweight 1.740 tons. One 1.350hp triple expansion engine allowing a speed of 11,5 (design for trials) 13,5 miles. Her crew numbered 22 men. Was in the fifties used on the shipping line Coryfon refinery at London-Birkenhead. Heavily damaged during a collision with the Worthing off Haisborough Sands on 13 October 1970. Handed over on the 24th at Blyth to be broken up while she was extensively repairs not worth. Was primarily for lubricant’s carriage but convertible to transport petrol. Had 10 separate tanks with capacities varying between the 130 and 170 tons.
