An item reported that several times Russian submarines of the SHCH type (1) were sighted arriving or departing the naval harbour of Lapaya, Latvia while submarines of other types just while leaving the harbour of Lepya. Similar submarines were also observed in the outer harbour and off Lepaya.

1. The Shchuka medium size class diesel electric submarines also called Sh or Shch-class, dating from the 1930s of which 88 were built and of which 35 were lost. Displacement 577 (surfaced)-704 (submerged) tons and as dimensions 57 x 6,2 x 3,78 metres or 187.0 x 20.4 x 12.5 feet. Speed 12,5 (surfaced)-6,3 (submerged) knots, range of 6.000 nautical miles with a speed of 8 knots, test diving depth 91 metres, a crew numbering 38 men and an armament of 6 53,3cm/21” torpedo tubes (4 bow, 2 stern) for which 10 torpedoes were carried and 2-4,6cm/1.8” guns.
