British cruiser HMS Bonaventure temporarily grounded at Wei Hai Wei according to the Dutch newspaper De locomotief dated 7 August 1899

An item London, England 21 July reported that the British cruiser Bonaventure (1) part of the China-squadron stranded at Wei Hai Wei but refloated and now underway towards Hong Kong to be docked.(1)

1. Of the Astraea-class 2nd class cruisers, preceded by the Apollo-class, succeeded by Eclipse-class, laid down at Devonport Dockyard in December 1890, launched on 2 December 1892, commissioned on 5 July 1894 and sold on 12 April 1920.
