Japanese navy protecting Japanese citizens at Amoy, China according to the Dutch newspaper De Sumatra Post dated 10 November 1899

An item reported that the riots at Amoy [Xiamen, China] had as purpose to get rid of the Japanese citizens. Sailors of the cruiser Takatshjie were ordered to protect the Japanese consulate.(1)

1. The Takachiho of the Naniwa-class protected cruisers? Building ordered in 22 March 1884, laid down by Armstrong Mitchell, South Tyneside, United Kingdom on 10 April 1884, launched on 16 May 1885, completed on 26 March 1886, classified as a minelayer in 1911, stricken on 29 October 1914 after she was torpedoed by the German torpedo boat S90 and her mines exploding at Tsingtao in the night of 17-18 October 1914.
