An item reported that around 35 miles north east of Tortugas a tanker was torpedoed in the Gulf of Mexico. Despite the fact that the main part of the enemy submarines were positioned west of the Azores in latitudes north of Charleston, South Carolina were most of the attacks in the Florida Straits or the Eastern Caribbean.
