American whaling bark George Washington visited South Africa according to the The Cape of Good Hope Almanac and Annual Register for 1846

The New Pictorial and Illustrated Family Magazine established for the diffusion of useful knowledge, 

vol. III. Robert Sears editor, New York 1846.

An item reported the arrival in the Simon’s Bay on 28 March 1845 by the American whaling bark George Washington with a tonnage of 230 tons, master John Taylor, coming from whaling and departing on 16 April to New Bedford.
