Peruvian cruiser Almirante Grau performed well during trials according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad 1907-1908 no. 8

An item reported that the trials of the Peruvian 3.200 ton cruiser Almirante Grau were quite satisfactory. She was fitted out with 2-4 cylinder triple expansion engines balanced via the Yarrow-Schlick Tweedy system. The steam was delivered by ten water tube boilers placed in 3 independent compartments. Closed sites were responsible for an artificial draw. In heavy weather proved the ship to posses  excellent sea qualities. The full steam trial was with calm sea and beautiful weather. With 216 rpm was 14.144 ihp developed allowing a speed of 26,641 miles. Neither engine room or boiler room encountered any difficulties and vibrations were absent. The 24 hours coal trial supplied more details about the fuel consumption.
