Portuguese cargo ship Mello visited Lisbon, Portugal in July 1941

In his letter No. 855 dated Lisbon 8 July 1941 reported the German naval attaché in Portugal to the Oberkommando der Kriegsmarine at Berlin the marine traffic at Lisbon between 29 June-5 July 1941. Portuguese cargo ship Mello, departed on 4 July towards Bissao [Portuguese Guinea, nowadays Republic of Guinea-Bissau]. Article 29581. Gross tonnage 4,020 ton. Loaded general cargo.

Portuguese ship Africa Occidental visited Funchal, Madeira in June 1941

In his letter No. 855 dated Lisbon 8 July 1941 reported the German naval attaché in Portugal to the Oberkommando der Kriegsmarine at Berlin the marine traffic at Funchal, Madeira in June 1941. Portuguese ship Africa Occidental. Arrival on 31 May coming from Bissau [Portuguese Guinea, nowadays Republic of Guinea-Bissau]. Departure on 3 June towards London, England. Article 19191. Gross register tonnage 1,268 tons. Cargo general cargo of which rice was unloaded. Loaded nothing.

Build in 1982 at the Yvc Ysselwerf, Capelle aan den IJssel, Netherlands. With a gross tonnage of 3,938 tons and the dimensions 89,32 (over all) x 12,50 x x 5,5 x 8,00 (hold) metres. Owned and managed by A. v.d. Zwan/Van der Zwan Zonen. Homeport Scheveningen. IMO no. 8107050, MMSI no. 244453000 and call sign PCTO. Holding capacity 1,700 tons and a freezing capacity of 130 tons in 24 hours. Main horsepower 3,600 hp. Build in 1982. Renamed in 2014 Dzintarjura. In 2013 Denmark flagged, in 2018 Samoa, anno 2019 Guinea-Bissau-flagged, MMSI 630123060 and call sign J5MK2, homeport Thyboron, owned by Nordic Pelagic and managed by tamme Bolt, both of Thyboron, Denmark. In 2015 purchased by Latvian buyers. Saint Kitts&Nevis-flagged, MMSI 341899000 and cal siign V4FJ3. Wasn in 2015 active in Mauritian waters.

Portuguese gunboats Honorio Barreto launched according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1895-1896 No. 7

An item reported the launching of the Portuguese gunboat Honorio-Barreto at Huyg Parry, Ginjal, Portugal. Dimensions 30,25 (between perpendiculars) x 6 x 0,84 metres and a displacement of 93 tons. The armament consisted of 2-4,7cm quick firing guns and 1-08cm Nordenfelt machinegun protected by as steel made protected with a height of 2 metres creating a kind of turret. Speed 9 miles.(1)

Russian Project 206 Shtorm-class and Project 20E Mol class torpedo boats 1960->2006




Called by the NATO the Shershen-class. The Shershan-class was preceded by the project 183 Bolshevik torpedo cutter and succeeded by the Turya-class. Designing process started in 1956 whiel the first unit built at the Yaroslav Shipyard entered the service in October 1970. The Yaroslalv Shipyard, Sredne-Nevskiy and Sosnovskiy Shipyard built totally 80 of this class with the Yugoslavian Kraljevice Shipyard building another 10 in licence (Croatia captured in 1991 w of the former Yugoslavian boats). Except for the Soviet Union served Shershan-class torpedo boats in the navies of Angola, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Cape Verde islands, Congo, Egypt, East Germany, Vietnam. Guinea and Guinea-Bissau. Further more was the simplified version Project 206E (called by the NATO Mol produced for the export market (Ethiopia, Iraq, Somalia and Sri Lanka).

With a displacement of 148 9standard)-172 (full load) tons and as dimensions 34,08 x 6,72 x 1,46 (draught) x 1,5 (draft) metres. The machinery consisted of 3-4.000hp M-503A diesel engines allowing a maximum speed of 45 knots. The range varied between 850 nautical miles with a speed of 30 knots (cruising) respectively 460 nautical with a continuous speed of 42 knots. The crew cumbered between 20-24 men (included 2 officers). The armament consisted of 2-AK0230 3cm/65 guns (1x bow, 1x stern), 1x1-SAN-5 MANPAD air defence missiles, 2 depth charge racks and 4 OTA-53-206M 53,3cm torpedo tubes mounted on the sides.

Portuguese gunboat Honorio Barreto for Portuguese Guinea service launched according to the magazine Mitteilungen aus dem Gebiete des Seewesens 1895 nr. 10

An item reported that the for Portuguese Guinea [nowadays Guinea- Bissau] destined Portuguese gunboat Honorio Barreto was launched on 20 May at Hugh Parry, Ginjal, Portugal, Dimensions 30,25 (between perpendiculars) x 6 (maximum) x 0,84 metres and a displacement of 93 tons. To be armed with 2-4,7cm quick firings (1 fore, 1 aft) protected by 2 metres height steel made shields and 1-8mm Nordenfelt machinegun. Medium speed 9 knots.

German firm establish naval base on Portuguese owned Bissagos Islands according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1936 no. 8

An item referred to the Proceedings dated June 1936 which claimed that according to French sources a German firm under the alias Compania Agricol y Fabrica da Guine was busy with establishing on one of the Bissagos Islands off Portuguese Guinea a naval base for submarines and floating planes. It was suspected that the firm tried to buy the island from the Portuguese government with the intention attacking French troop and stores transports. In the meantime was the island hired for seven years by the firm from Portugal.

Note
1, Bijagós Archipelago nowadays part of Guinea-Bissau. The islands were annexed in 1936 by Portugal and added to Portuguese Guinea.
