The French naval base at the Baleares according to the Dutch newspaper Het Vaderland daily edition dated 2 January 1933

The voyage of voyage of Malvy to Mallorca caused the correspondent in Paris from the Italian newspaper Stampa published in Turin to call to be on guard. This newspaper claimed that this was a reconnaissance voyage along the coast of Mallorca and that Malvy was used by France during the political and military efforts to obtain influence in Spanish matters. His voyage was a proof that that the naval base at the Baleares which was exclusively for French use would be quite far completed. According to the Stampa was it necessary to request the Spanish cabinet at Madrid for more specified information and that the balance in the Mediterranean had be an international point of discussion. If there the meetings between France and Italy were started again with as topic a naval treaty this newest developments had to be a part of the discussions.
